National Fungus Day

Last Sunday was "National Fungus Day"and the event was celebrated in Carmarthenshire at the National Garden of Wales at Llanarthne. The day was filled with presentations, exhibitions and fungus forays, and although the weather could have been kinder, the rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the many people who turned up. The Great Glasshouse housed  a number of fungi-related stands and exhibits and forays were organised in the adjacent woods as well as a search for waxcaps on the Waun Las reserve - the pictures were taken on the day.  Pat O'Reilly and his wife Sue, from First-Nature, also gave an excellent presentation at the Theatr Botanica. Pat O'Reilly's recent book, "Fascinated by Fungi" is a "must-read"for anybody wanting to know more about the subject.

Let us hope that the success of this year's event will make it permanent feature on the Carmarthenshire wildlife calendar.
