Geastrum triplex ---- Collared Earthstar

Earthstars of several sorts may be found in Pembrey Country Park and forest, generally from mid October through the winter months.  This year I have just seen these two Geastrum triplex, Collared Earthstars, first seen during the last week of October.  The photo on the right is of an older specimen with the rays going brown.  Bruce at the Botanic garden has a crop in the Great Glasshouse of the same species although these are much larger and a deeper brown.
