Shaggy Scalycap

Many thanks to Sue Davies for sending this photo of a Shaggy Scalycap (Pholiota squarrosa). Sue is a member of the embroidery club at the National Botanical Garden of Wales and has just completed this excellent depiction in felt. There will soon be an exhibition of this and other embroidered fungus species at the gallery at the Botanical Gardens in Llanarthne.

  1. What's the old saying, "stand back and be impressed"! If I knew half as much about fungi as you do needlework, I'd be a very happy mycologist.

  2. There are lots of needlework fungi already on display in the Hidden Kingdom Exhibit in Great Glasshouse and new ones added as they are completed. I have become a bit obsessed with fungi and stitching them is a great way to study details. Thank you for kind comments, it was quite a challenge.
