Calocybe gambosa --- St George's Mushroom

This patch of St George's Mushroom have fruited in the same place, a public footpath bordering Ffrwd Fen Reserve, for several years.  The upper photo was taken on 21st April (St George's Day, April 23rd) when the fungi were still very small.  The fungi were much larger by the 8th May (lower photo).  When seen in previous years they have always been well developed by St George's day ---- showing that, for fungi, this has been a late 'season'.
