Who are we?

We are an informal group brought together recently by an interest in fungi, and being called the Carmarthenshire Fungi Group, the clue is in the title as to where our interest is centered. By interest we mean the broad spectrum from "nerdishly obsessive" all the way through to a beginner's desire to know a little bit more about that life form they've just stepped on.

We are lucky in Carmarthenshire to have The National Botanical Garden of Wales centered near Llanarthne, and it was here that the UK National Fungus Day had its origins, and those that attended the event this year cannot fail to have been enthused to find out a little bit more about this fascinating world.

Various forays are held around Carmarthenshire during the year, organised by Llanelli Naturalists, The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, and the National Garden of Wales and we hope to hold some of our own next year. These are usually held during the autumn and we will let you know when they are coming up. We will also give a short report on them afterwards, as well as highlighting a number of "fungus hotspots" around Carmarthenshire that may be of interest.

If you are a fungus enthusiast, a wildlife follower with a casual interest or a complete beginner who would just like to find out more, you are cordially invited to join our group by sending an email to: Carmarthenshirefungi@yahoo.co.uk
